Prof. Jonathan Halevy graduated from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in 1973.
After four years of military service, he completed an internship in Beilinson Hospital (now Rabin Medical Center). After two years at Yale University, funded by the prestigious Fogerty Foundation, he briefly served as the executive director of an inpatient department at Beilinson Hospital.
In May 1988, he was appointed general manager of the Sha’arei Zedek Medical Center, and he has held this position to this day.
The Sha’arei Zedek Hospital was inaugurated in 1902 and is currently the only large hospital in central Jerusalem, with more than 850 beds.
Alongside regular management of the hospital, as well as the management of a unit of internal medicine, Prof. Halevy held a wide variety of public positions, including:
• Director of Public Interest at Bank Tefahot Mortgage (2000-1995);
• Chair of the National Transplant Center (2006-2000);
• Member of the Bar-Ilan University Executive Committee (2007-2004);
• Chair of the Advisory Committee on Higher Education, which discussed the need to establish a fifth medical school in Israel (2007);
• Chair of the Health Basket Committee (2013-2015).
In addition, Prof. Halevi served as chair of the Risk Management Forum in Medicine Ltd., and since 2006 he is a member of the National Civil Service Board.
In September 2012, he was appointed chair of the Health Basket Committee.
Prof. Jonathan Halevi is an expert in internal medicine, gastroenterology and medical administration.
He is a very active teacher and lecturer and Professor, Clinical Member of the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
He has authored more than 100 articles and articles in the field of medicine and has published books in two of his special interests: “The Doctor-Patient Relationship” (2003) and “Complementary and Alternative Medicine – All the Facts” (2005).
